What do they pretend?

Some people are attacking Mr Mario Farrugia Borg who is a Maltese who endorsed Islam for the fact that he is asking peacful coexistance as regards religion in Malta.

Their main point of attack is comparing the way Christians are treated in Muslim countries. First of all it is not true that in all countries where Muslims are a majority, Christians are treated badly, such as in Turkey and Lebanon.

However what worries me is 'what are these people expecting from Mr Farrugia?' That he goes to Iran and Saudi Arabia and reverse the maltreatment of Cristians? That is mission impossible, definitely much more impossible than writing senseless letters in the newspapers.

Worse still, what are they proposing? That we eliminate peaceful coexistance in our country? And then? Are they appealing to fellow Christians to arm themselve and destroy the 'peaceful' aspect. They might be doing so in Iran vis-a-vis Christians, but neither I nor them have seen Iran as an ideal country with an ideal leadership.

The only option is to eliminate the coexistance. Does it mean that Maltese Muslims should be deported to a country with a Muslim majority? Are these people going insane or what?

However, there is one point I would also like to address to Mr Farrugia and the Imam. You deserve to be free from discrimination, but there were instances when you condemned homosexuals. This is not acceptable at all. The Green Youth are in favour of the 'All Aifferent All Equal' mentality but this has to apply for everyone.

Luckily enough Malta is a secular state. This means that we are more than willing to tolerate anyone practicing his or her religion. Freedom of worship is a fundamental human right, however it with it come obligations.

We are ready to tolerate any religion that abides by the Maltese laws. However we could never tolerate intolerance, whether in the name of a religion or not.

Ps: We Greens are in favour of civil unions for homosexual persons and beleive that neither the Christian not the Muslim communities should interfere in drafting legal policies.
